Strong staging of a history of mafias, betrayals, codes and with an exceptional handling of traditional cinema techniques and respectful application of digital effects.
Superb atmosphere, performances by Joe Pesce and Robert de Niro admirable and an Al Pacino on the edge of the cartoon and exaggeration.
Three and a half hours that could have been two hours and it was enough for a Scorcese again brilliant, with plenty of work in this type of staging and that largely manage to encumbrate their work thanks to great actors.
Great movie that cheats itself so as not to become a masterpiece.

I can see Joe Pesci playing Navy admiral Raymond Spruance after seeing him portray Russell Bufalino, the Quiet Don. Spruance had a similar demeanor. Pesci should reconsider just a blanket retirement from acting and do it as a hobby of sorts because he is an exceptionally good and versatile actor.

Being a native New Jerseyan and a big Stephen Graham fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this intro. The Cuban music has significance as Union City NJ (location of teamsters 560) at one time was said to have more Cubans than Havana Cuba. Graham was awesome as Capone in Boardwalk Empire (another nod to NJ) and did a fantastic job in the Irishman going up against the great Al Pacino.
It sucks that Sal literally did everything asked of him and still got whacked.
